Senate Republicans’ unconstitutional attack on bodily autonomy

Senate Republicans forced a vote on a 20-week abortion ban.

My friends, this one is very personal. I’ve been lucky enough to carry two children to term, through uncomplicated pregnancies. I cherished my unborn daughters. At the same time, those experiences convinced me as nothing else has ever done, that a pregnant person must be entitled to terminate their pregnancy, as an inviolable principle of bodily autonomy.

Pregnant people risk their peace of mind, their health, and even their lives, to bear children. No one should ever be forced to do so against their will.

We can disagree about many things. We cannot agree to violate a person’s right to their own body. As the Supreme Court has clearly ruled, to do so is unconstitutional.

In January, Dianne Feinstein said: “I remember what it was like before Roe v. Wade. I know the lengths women took so they could make their own decisions regarding their health and their destiny. I know all too well just how dangerous it was before Roe v. Wade, and I’ll continue to fight to protect a woman’s hard-fought right to control her own body.”

Kamala Harris also opposed the ban. Please call our Senators and thank them for standing up for women. Please ask them to urge their Republican colleagues to do the same.
