If you’re infuriated by the president’s predictably extreme, partisan nominee to the Supreme Court, you’re not alone. More than forty people attended our Harris office action today. One woman drove down from Ukiah.
People are angry. That gives us an opportunity. If we work hard, there’s a chance we could retake the Senate in November. Democratic Senators can stall this nomination until the midterms. But we need to give them a reason to do it. We need to keep the pressure on.
ONE THING YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW
Senators Harris and Feinstein both serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee. They’ll be among those questioning Kavanaugh. They’re key to slowing down the process. Contact them both. Celeste Pewter provides this script:
You: Hi, my name is [name]. I am calling from [zip]. I am asking [Senator] to commit to a thorough vetting and questioning of Judge Kavanaugh’s qualifications for the Supreme Court. (We know Feinstein and Harris will do this. This is to support them.)
You: We need to know where Judge Kavanaugh stands on key legal rulings such as Roe v. Wade. Simply stating he accepts established precedent, does not provide enough information.
(This part is important:)
You: Moreover, I am asking that [Senator] push for Judge Kavanaugh’s emails from his time at the White House to be released to the public, just as Justice Kagan’s emails were released to the public during her confirmation process. Justice Kagan’s emails were used to vet her legal history; Judge Kavanaugh’s emails should be used to do the same.
