Shut down the wall

Today, the Senate voted down two bills to reopen the government. The first was Trump’s anti-immigrant “deal” to pay for his wall. The second, a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government for two weeks without additional border funding, also failed.

The CR was always going to be a long shot. But there’s good news. This bill got more votes than the president’s, from both Democrats and Republicans. Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Lamar Alexander, Johnny Isakson, Cory Gardner and even Mitt Romney supported it.

The GOP is weakening. It’s time to escalate. Indivisible is partnering with United We Dream and MoveOn on national day of action on Tuesday, January 29 to end the government shutdown. Indivisibles all over the country will be pressuring Republicans. Learn more here.

Our Senators have been strong in this fight. Let them know we have their backs. Call Senators Feinstein and Harris and thank them for fighting to reopen the government WITHOUT building Trump’s vanity wall. If you don’t like calling, there’s always Resistbot.

A personal message from member Carole:

Urgent call–ASAP!

As a member of Stand Up SF, I’ve been meeting with the offices of Congresswomen Feinstein and Pelosi. To assist them in getting our government re-opened and our country safe, they have asked for personal stories from Californians of how the shutdown has a direct adverse impact. If you or someone you know has lost income, lost work, or lost access to services, please email me your story in two paragraphs, with a photo. (my email is

I will gather up your stories and pass them on to Pelosi and Feinstein’s offices. They will be brought to the House and Senate floor to help underscore the real-world impact of the shutdown and to build consensus for an end to it. Help personalize this damaging standstill.

Please share and pass along to your friends/relatives/contacts/social media webs. Voices from red districts in California–especially the Central Valley–will be particularly helpful to convince Republican members of Congress.

Thank you so much!

We have a brand new shipment of sturdy tote bags, manufactured ethically in the USA, bearing the Stand Up San Francisco logo. They’ll be great for finding one another at big rallies, or just showing your pride in being an active member of the Resistance! Tote bags will be available at general meetings; pay what you can. Huge thanks to member Laura for design and coordination!
